Health

There are presently no Covid-19 restrictions in Rwanda.  However, we recommend that you check for updates and details on the site of the Rwanda Biomedical Center. In addition, take note that a PCR test, available at the cost of 50$USD at local health centers, is mandatory to visit primates in Volcanoes, Nyungwe and Gishwati National Parks. We suggest visiting your travel health clinic six weeks before your departure, as well as preparing a travel health kit, including a proof of insurance coverage.

Climate

Despite its location near the Equator, Rwanda’s temperature is generally mild. In Kigali, temperatures range between 28 degrees Celsius during the day and 16 degrees Celsius at night. While you can expect warmer weather in Akagera National Park, temperatures in Volcanoes and in Nyungwe National Parks tend to be cooler. If you are planning on hiking in the National Parks, make sure to bring a raincoat, gloves, hiking boots and gaiters, a long sleeved shirt and pants in preparation for muddy trails and stinging nettles. You can hire a porter at the entrance of Volcanoes and Nyungwe National Parks to help you carry your bags and equipment. You may also want to bring sunscreen and a hat, as well as a sweater for evenings.

Visas

All travelers can receive a visa upon arrival. Visitors from countries belonging to the African Union, the Commonwealth and la Francophonie can obtain a free visa after arriving. It is also possible to receive a visa in advance by applying online at Rwanda Immigration.

Language

Rwanda’s official languages are Kinyarwanda, English, Swahili and French.

Internet is available in most hotels, cafes and restaurants. For internet access on the go, a mobile internet device or local SIM card with data is an alternative.
