An adventure with a focus on Rwanda’s rare primates, complete with a relaxing boat tour and a chance to connect with the community through exciting initiatives including a women-led walking tour and a visit to Handspun Hope, a producer of handmade, organic merino wool.   

Day 1
Arrival

Following your arrival in Kigali, you are picked up at the airport by your Driver Guide and you receive a briefing about your itinerary. You then check in at Heaven Boutique Hotel to enjoy dinner and rest.

Day 2

Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Kigali City Tour (Duration: 3 and a half hours) See, learn, shop and eat! Your driver-guide picks you up at your accommodation and you set out on a tour of Kigali City. You begin by a guided visit of Gisozi Genocide Memorial (duration: 90 min). You then set out for Nyamirambo Women’s Center where you are welcomed in the community for a walking tour, which includes a visit to a local tailor shop, a women’s hair salon and family compound, as well as an opportunity to shop for handmade crafts, and lastly, a traditional lunch (duration: 2 hours). Before heading back to your accommodation, you wrap up your tour with a visit to Mount Kigali, where you enjoy a selfie-worthy panorama over the city (duration: 60 min). Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (2hrs) Check in at Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge in Kinigi, a few minutes away from the Park entrance and in view of the spectacular Volcanoes Mountain Range.

Day 3

Gorilla Tracking

After breakfast, your guide drives you to Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi. After receiving a briefing on Mountain Gorilla etiquette, you begin tracking at 7am. Expect to be surprised, moved and awed by Rwanda’s gentle giants. Visit Umuzabibu Mwiza / Handspun Hope (Duration: 60 min) From shearing to spinning, knitting and dyeing with local plants, watch how this group of more than 200 women produces organic yarn from their own merino sheep and rabbits. Day 4

Golden Monkey Tracking & Lunch on an Island

An endangered and rare species found exclusively in the Virunga Mountains, Golden Monkeys are another exciting attraction available at Volcanoes National Park. Golden Monkeys, which live in troops of eight to eighty individuals, feed mostly on fruit and bamboo found on the slopes of Mount Sabyinyo and Mount Karisimbi. At night, they gather into small groups of about four individuals, weaving a nest to sleep. Daily excursions begin at the Park headquarters in Kinigi. Lunch on an Island at Ruhondo Lake Retreat Hop on a boat and enjoy lunch in the serene setting provided by one of Lake Ruhondo’s green islands, followed by a scenic boat tour. Day 5 

Transfer back to Kigali

Travel back to Kigali City. Safe journeys!
